The will of Mohtramma Benazir Bhutto has been made public. The front pages of all the major newspapers carried pictures of the handwritten will of BB. This was done in an attempt to silence the voices which were asking if the will putting Asif Ali Zardari in charge was genuine or not? Looking at the will now, it certainly seems to be written by BB herself.
However, is this the real political question? That whether she herself put Zardari in charge or not for the time Bilawal can take over the reins? For us, the real question is: where is the political will for democracy? Where is the political will for strengthening political parties and not political fiefdoms?
If Zardari dies today, then will we also find a will in which he puts another family member in charge until Bilawal is ready?
The Pakistani people also continue to accept parties being treated as personal properties. Is it any wonder then that our political leaders, when they come to power, think of the country as a personal slave that can be raped and looted at will?
Where is the political will of the Pakistani nation to stop being treated as pawns?
